How are we different from other styles of Yoga?

We feature

› large, group classes. User-friendly heat and humidity levels, with controlled fresh air flow. Mirrors. Non-carpeted flooring. Inspirational music. Supportive and friendly atmosphere. The Teachers are available before and after class for personal consultations

› a set sequence of Yogic postures and breathing exercises. In addition, incorporate different “alternative sequences”, e.g. backbend series, leg-stretching series, hip openers, arm balances, extended guided relaxation... Different Hot Yoga Evolution sequences are based on the Barkan Method Hot Yoga series, and bring in exercises from other styles of Yoga. Occasionally, Taoist qigong and martial arts, Pilates, bodybuilding, and muscle-contraction techniques are offered within the class, if appropriate

› set-sequence, warm Vinyasa class with added variations. Attention on movement-breath integration, and the focus on upper body strength and stamina development

› set-sequence classic Hatha Hot Yoga Advanced class from Bishnu Ghosh's lineage, College of Physical Education, Calcutta, India

› modifications offered for Students with injuries / limitations / pregnancy

› posture variations added to stimulate Students’ interest in creative exploration

› multilevel group classes, open to everyone: brand-new beginner, to ultra advanced/teacher skill level

› Student development is supported through series of workshops, where the Yogic ideas, principles and background are presented in an interesting way, and discussed openly to stimulate a deeper understanding. Posture clinics are available, introducing different precision techniques, modifications and corrections

› the Teachers follow the general Hot Yoga Evolution teaching methodology, structure and principles. We certainly do not use any “dialogue”, so that the Teachers are able to find their own, unique and effective style of teaching and self expression. A fun, ego-free, contemporary approach to teaching is preferred.

Different Levels of Practice

› The Beginners

are invited to proceed at their own pace, but we encourage them to practice five days a week for the first two months. This quickly builds a strong foundation, and offers access to immediate benefits and visible changes, that will inspire the Beginning Students to trust their practice.
Posture modifications are offered to accommodate any physical limitations or injuries. We approach the Beginners in a sweet, non-judgmental way and encourage them to develop a healthy routine. The main focus is on developing a regular practice. The most attention is given to the standing exercises and relaxation. Beginners qualities to work on are balance, strength, flexibility and concentration.

› The Intermediate Students

are guided more firmly. Custom-tailored adjustments, corrections and an extra push are given, when necessary. We invite them to explore what is available to them - we throw away what is not working - and keep what's useful. The most attention is given to mastering alignment, awareness, and sensitivity. Quiet sitting/meditation are encouraged. The qualities to work on: sensitivity, awareness, and self-trust.

› The Advanced

We strive to inspire the Advanced Students to become "unlimited" through their Yoga practice. Physical focus is on backbends, then we go beyond the body and enter the next level: The qualities we work on are self-realization and love. We guide everyone in a non-dogmatic, free spirited way and have a lot of fun in the process!

The Effects of Practice

› Physically

the yoga asanas are designed to work internally and externally. Internally: improvements to the internal organs and body systems are realized through consistent practice. An exegetic balance is created. Externally: the joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments are all made stronger. A better-looking physique, big smile and healthy "glow" are just some of the benefits here.

› Mentally

as in all forms of Yoga, the mind is strengthened through the discipline and concentration. This helps eliminate stress, depression, anxiety, and other dysfunctional mental disorders. Our Yoga helps to create the calming of the mind, quieting of the brain's chatter, and brings about a deep relaxation-response.

› Spiritually

as we strengthen the body and calm the mind, we open ourselves up for a transformational experience. The intention behind our Yoga practice is to balance the body, quiet the mind, heal the heart, and nourish the soul.
